A Photographic Storyboard 4 Years In The Making: ” Faerieland ”

The photo project by photographer Ashley Lebedev “Faerieland” is a dark fairytale and is still on-going four years after its inception. “The idea and inspiration for this board came in 2010 while I was out one day walking in the woods with my dogs. During that walk, my cell phone’s camera began going off without being pushed. I didn’t look at my camera until later on that evening but when I did, I found a bright white picture of what looked like a fairy or pixie flying across the screen. I used that accidental image as my inspiration for the following series,” she said.

Since 2007, the artist has produced performances all throughout the world – in Paris, Austria, Portugal, the United States, the UK, Germany, and Spain, to name a few. The dancers do choreographed poses that they hold for just a few moments before moving on to the next place.

World renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz has been photographing celebrities as popular Disney characters for years as part of her ongoing collection of Disney Dream Portraits. The latest addition to her series is Academy Award nominated actress Jessica Chastain as the red-haired Merida from the animated film Brave.

Leibovitz’s series takes popular cartoon characters from the classic Disney films and transforms them into real life versions of themselves with the help of a few celebrities. While not all of the photographer’s renditions are exact copies of their cartoon counterparts, they offer a sense of magic and fantasy come to life.
