He had no background in photography so he enlisted the help of Damaso Reyes, a photojournalist and an artist to become his teacher. 90% of what he taught Nagata was the philosophy of photography. He needs to learn philosophy on how to make great art. His teacher also emphasized how it is important to become from a good to excellent photographer.

In this series, Nagata took pictures of abstract, black and white street portraits of people caught in the frigid elements. He lights his figures from behind with a flash using a slow shutter speed. The results are pretty striking photographs of people that look nearly transparent yet appear to be almost perfectly surrounded by a halo of light.
