By growing up surrounded by a family of artists including a photographer, painter and sculptor, it is not unexpected for photographer Pierre Carreau, born in 1972 near Paris, to be influenced by them and develop his creative upbringing and artistic output.

Fascinated by the ocean even as a child, Carreau is naturally drawn to the study of waves, their color, their movement, and their shape. Some of his first photography work features the energetic life of the ocean as it crashes onto the shores, with every shot more unique than the next. Carreau says, “I like the fact that this energy comes from far away to be revealed on our beaches.”

He is able to capture the beautiful light and shadows that shine along the surface of the water, producing what appears to be like delicate pieces of glass. Carreau needs to take a hundred shots before he can capture the right moment. But, in his collection of what he calls “liquid sculptures,” the hard work is totally worth it as he produces the stunning, crystal-clear details and transparency of the powerful ocean waves.
