Long Exposure Fireworks Photos by David Johnson

Long Exposure Fireworks Photos by David Johnson

While attending the International Fireworks Show in Ottawa, Canada, photographer David Johnson had his camera in hand and captured a beautiful series of firework photos. During the Spanish fireworks performance, Johnson decided to try something new instead of the standard long-exposure style that most photographer uses when shooting firework displays.

Johnson told www.thisiscolossal.com :

“The technique I used was a simple refocus during the long exposure. Each shot was about a second long, sometimes two. I’d start out of focus, and when I heard the explosion I would quickly refocus, so the little stems on these deep sea creature lookalikes would grow into a fine point. The shapes are quite bizarre, some of them I was pleasantly surprised with.”

Instead of capturing streaks of colored lines in the sky, the technique cause the fireworks to have volume, turning them into beautiful floral shapes.

Peacock Spiders by Dr. Jurgen Otto

Peacock Spiders by Dr. Jurgen Otto

The Maratus volans, better known as the Peacock Spider, is the cutest arachnid you will ever see. At four millimeters in length, the Peacock Spider is hard to find. Hiding in the undergrowth, it is the sort of thing an average stroller would pass by, but not with arachnologist Dr. Jurgen Otto.

Dr. Otto has very keen eye for details and he is mostly rewarded for photographing this tiny creature. The male species has two rounded, brilliantly colored flaps that he uses when he courts his mate. To get the attention of a female spider, the male spider will first wave his legs, vibrates his abdomen and like a peacock, raises his magnificently colored flaps and dances for the female. Thus, justifying the name Peacock Spider.
