Ocean Waves Crash With Dyed Color

Paris-based photographer Arnaud Lajeunie‘s dramatic series Water meets colour, colour meets water captures striking images of ocean waves crashing and swirling with vibrant colors. Lajeunie tints the surging water with a multitude of sugar-based dyes like acid green and deep indigo, creating visually wonderful scenes.

“I rely on the camera as a device with technical features that can give tangible shapes to ever-moving fluxes, in this case the waves,” the photographer explains. “The high shutter speed transcends the human reflex of persistence of vision: it reveals existing shapes that the ‘mortal eye’ cannot perceive on its own. Here, colour is seen as a raw material, as are the waves and the rocks. Colour adds density and thickness to transparent water, thus enhancing the flux fixation process.”

Long Exposure Photographs of Waves by David Orias

Photographer David Orias from Santa Barbara, California takes photos of waves with a slow shutter speed, capturing their movement, color, and power as they come crashing down from the Pacific Ocean. The stunning photo series, titled Waves, were taken at the beaches of Southern California. “Southern California has its fire season and sometimes this creates conditions of eerie orange light in the morning as the sunlight is filtered and scattered by smoke particles. This creates unusual and to some viewers unrealistic colors. I take the baseline colors and work with them to create a fine art appeal,” says David.

Deep Sea Creatures by Joshua Lambus

Deep Sea Creatures by Joshua Lambus

Deep Sea Creatures by Joshua Lambus

“My photos are to show people things they haven’t seen before… or maybe things they see all the time… in a way they’ve never cared to look” – J. Lambus

Underwater photographer Joshua Lambus is one of the pioneers of blackwater diving photography. It involves scuba diving during the night to capture the shy, rarely-seen, nocturnal sea creatures. These creatures glow beautifully in the dark.

Lambus once focused on the candid emotion of people, but now he finds even greater interest in the ocean. He said, “I never cared much for modeling and posed portraiture, that wasn’t alive to me. I liked seeing life, I love photographing life. After a shoot, I’d sit and look through my prints, I would see a world moving, shifting, living… dying.” The situation of our fragile ecosystem that is on the verge of destruction is what drives Lambus to continue his work for a greater purpose. He hopes to tell a story and ask for help for those without voice.
